Stefan Listl is a dentist and economist. He is full professor in Quality and Safety of Oral Healthcare at Radboud University (Netherlands), director of the Translational Health Economics Section at Heidelberg University (Germany), and an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania (USA).

Stefan is a member of the Lancet Commission on Global Oral Health and the WHO Global Oral Health Report steering group. He previously served as a consultant for Harvard University’s Malaysia Health Systems Reform project, and contributed to the FDI World Dental Federation Vision 2030 report, the first ever NIH Report on Oral Health in America, and the oral health standard set of the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM). He spoke at oral health events during United Nations High-Level Meetings, in the Dutch House of Representatives and at the EU Parliament.

Stefan served as a PI for the EU Horizon 2020 project ADVOCATE (Added Value for Oral Care) where he coordinated the big data analytics and health economics workstreams. In a research project funded by NIH (USA), he served as Co-PI to analyze cross-country variations in older adults’ dental coverage and out-of-pocket payments. Stefan has also been PI of the German Innovation Fund projects Dent@Prevent, Perio-ComPas and DigIn2Perio which have been developing and testing digital tools to enhance medical-dental integration and empowering patients alongside their journey through periodontitis and diabetes care. His total grant acquisition exceeds €13 million.

He is author of more than 100 journal publications, including in Lancet, Nature, Bulletin of the WHO, Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, American Journal of Epidemiology, American Journal of Public Health, Social Science & Medicine, and Journal of Dental Research. He is editorial board member for the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Evidence-based Dental Practice and regularly reviews for journals and funding institutions.
